Fasting at its core is a hunger and longing for the presence of God. It demonstrates God is King of our lives by giving something up that steals our heart’s affection. Fasting reminds us God is more important than anything, even what sustains us physically. Frequently in the Old Testament, we see entire communities of people participate in a fast together. Jesus also fasted before He began His public ministry.
As we prepare for the move to City Station, we want to prepare ourselves spiritually and intentionally do battle against anything that would steal our hunger for God. We want to lay down our rights and desires so that Christ may be glorified. What will you lay down for 21 days? What is something specific that steals your affection? What will require sacrifice?
THE FAST BEGINS:
