Our Children’s Ministry at Southern Hills is Christ-Centered, Family-Focused, and Child-Targeted:
Christ-Centered (Philippians 3:8) - At the core of everything is Christ. By Him all things were created and through Him all things are held together. He is the head of the Church and we meet together to worship Him. Outside of Him there is no purpose.
Family-Focused (Proverbs 22:6) - Taking the deep red love that a family has and combining it with the bright yellow light of the Church to form an orange that impacts a child. To supplement the family means to enhance or complete what a family is striving for in raising their child up in Christ.
Child-Targeted (1 Corinthians 9:22) - We want to immerse ourselves into and know the culture of children today. We will do what we need to in order to reach this generation for Christ. We plan activities that are age-appropriate and engaging to children. The environment in the classrooms communicate to the children that they are treasured. Songs and Bible lessons are taught in ways that will best reach and teach children.
We look forward to your visit to our campus! When you arrive, go to Guest Services located outside of the auditorium. You will be greeted by one of our volunteers and your child will be checked into our database system. We will ask the following personal information:
Parent(s)/Guardian(s) names, email address, and phone number
Child’s full name
Birthdate, gender, grade, and any special instructions (allergies or health concerns)
Siblings’ names and birth dates
You and your child will be given matching identification tags that are exclusive to your family and your visit. You will need these tags for the child’s check out at the end of service. After check in, one of our volunteers will be happy to show you the age-appropriate room for your child.
We have events specifically designed for our Children’s ministries.
(4th Grade - 6th Grade)
In 456, we seek to provide preteens an authentic encounter with the Gospel. We engage preteens’ interests to provoke knowing God personally and to teach them why we worship. In small groups, we affirm their identity to give them a safe place to process doubts.
456 Preteens is available during all our services. Our preteens also meet on Wednesdays from 7:00 PM - 8:15 PM.
(Kindergarten - 3rd Grade)
In All Stars we strive to engage kids to trust God’s character and experience God’s family through interactive games, music, a Bible lesson, and small groups.
We focus on teaching 3 basic truths: I should treat others the way I want to be treated, I need to make the wise choice, and I can trust God no matter what. Programs for elementary kids are available during each of our services.
All Stars is available during all our services.
(Birth - Pre-K)
In the Treehouse, kids are shown lots of love and attention by caring volunteers. We embrace their needs through age-appropriate lessons where they can meet God’s family and know God’s love.
Before the children leave this age group, it is our goal that they will see the church as safe and loving as well as know "God loves me, God made me, and Jesus wants to be my friend forever!"
The Treehouse is available during all our services.
We want Southern Hills to be a safe place for children. We understand that safety and security are among the child’s highest needs. Children cannot learn well in an environment where they are afraid and don’t feel safe emotionally, physically, or spiritually. As children arrive at church, they need to feel genuine warmth and an immediate comfort level with adults who are responsible for them. We need to assure parents and children alike that we have their best interests as our top priority at all times. That’s why safety is a must! Children have to face scary situations too often in their lives. We want our kids to be able to know without hesitation that they are safe at Southern Hills!
Southern Hills safety policy:
At Southern Hills, our Children and Student Pastors have all attended a child sexual abuse training seminar Stewards of Children. The children and students’ safety are a priority here.
Stewards of Children is a child sexual abuse prevention training that isthe only nationally available programscientifically proven to increase knowledge, improve attitudes and change child-protective behaviors. Stewards of Children covers:
After training individuals should have:
The average child will spend over 1000 hours every year in school and they will spend less than 50 hours in church. The average parent has more than 10 times the opportunities to discuss spiritual issues in one year than a church leader does in 10 years. The church has limited potential to impact the heart of your child. What happens at home in many ways is more important than what happens at church!
Southern Hills seeks and desires involvement from the child’s parents both inside and outside of the church in order to help develop a faith and continued spiritual growth.
Here at Southern Hills, we believe that parents carry the primary spiritual burden to discipline their own children and that it’s our job as a church to encourage the necessary steps to lead their families at home. Below are a few helpful links for you:
