Our Children’s Ministry at Southern Hills is Christ-Centered, Family-Focused, and Child-Targeted:
We look forward to your visit to our campus! When you arrive, go to Guest Services located outside of the auditorium. You will be greeted by one of our volunteers and your child will be checked into our database system. We will ask the following personal information:
You and your child will be given matching identification tags that are exclusive to your family and your visit. You will need these tags for the child’s check out at the end of service. After check in, one of our volunteers will be happy to show you the age-appropriate room for your child.
(4th Grade - 6th Grade)
The purpose of 456 is to transform the lives of preteens by providing an authentic encounter with the Gospel within the context of a true community focused on worshiping God and leading others to Him. We want to teach why we worship by involving the preteens in prayer, singing, offering, communion, scripture, testimonies, and serving. Each service has a time of reflection and prayer where students can actively take the next step of growing their faith.
(Kindergarten - 3rd Grade)
Children meet in a large group to hear lessons and to interact and fellowship with friends and adult volunteers. The All Stars incorporate small groups or “huddle groups,” so the children can meet and interact with others that are the same age to review the lesson and enjoy activities. “Coaches” are the adult leaders in these huddle groups that help carry out the activities and most importantly, build relationships. Volunteers take part in skits each week to further give application to the Bible story and to create a fun and memorable environment.
(2 Years Old - Pre-K)
There are 3 classrooms in this building (ages 2, 3, or 4 on or before September 1 of the current school year). Age appropriate lessons and activities are used to help maximize individual growth and spiritual growth. Before the children leave this age group, it is our goal that they will know God loves me, God made me, and Jesus wants to be my friend forever!
(Birth - 2 Years Old)
The Wunder Way kids range from cuddlers-toddlers. These classrooms are divided by the child’s gross-motor abilities. The children are shown lots of love and attention by caring adult volunteers. Before the children leave this age group, it is our goal that they will see the church as safe and loving!
We want Southern Hills to be a safe place for children. We understand that safety and security are among the child’s highest needs. Children cannot learn well in an environment where they are afraid and don’t feel safe emotionally, physically, or spiritually. As children arrive at church, they need to feel genuine warmth and an immediate comfort level with adults who are responsible for them. We need to assure parents and children alike that we have their best interests as our top priority at all times. That’s why safety is a must! Children have to face scary situations too often in their lives. We want our kids to be able to know without hesitation that they are safe at Southern Hills!
Southern Hills safety policy:
At Southern Hills, our Children and Student Pastors have all attended a child sexual abuse training seminar Stewards of Children. The children and students’ safety are a priority here.
Stewards of Children is a child sexual abuse prevention training that isthe only nationally available programscientifically proven to increase knowledge, improve attitudes and change child-protective behaviors. Stewards of Children covers:
After training individuals should have:
The average child will spend over 1000 hours every year in school and they will spend less than 50 hours in church. The average parent has more than 10 times the opportunities to discuss spiritual issues in one year than a church leader does in 10 years. The church has limited potential to impact the heart of your child. What happens at home in many ways is more important than what happens at church!
Southern Hills seeks and desires involvement from the child’s parents both inside and outside of the church in order to help develop a faith and continued spiritual growth.
Here at Southern Hills, we believe that parents carry the primary spiritual burden to discipline their own children and that it’s our job as a church to encourage the necessary steps to lead their families at home. Below are a few helpful links for you:
